My son-in-law's Dad is a landscape gardener. He found a 4 foot long piece of 10x2 construction timber in a skip where he works and thought I could use it. The millionaire owner of the property is having a lot of work done. I think it's sapele. Mahogany-esque anyway...

I bandsawed three 10" and one 6" bowl blanks out of it and turned the first one today. Using my new Axi AT1628VS which is just wonderful. The other blanks are in the pic. Not bad for free!

Looks like you are heading in the right direction on several fronts, good shape, good finish and very significantly low cost turning stock.
