Photoshop guru needed

I've got CS 2
Does anyone know of an online tutorial that gives me a click by click on how to delete part of a pen tool path?
I'm cutting out shapes from their background and want to reuse part of the original path.

Thanks nev. I did read that, I think I am getting the various selection tools muddled up
