Insurance companies are increasing premiums by hundreds of pounds for customers who simply ring up to report a problem without ever making a claim on their policies.

All companies are now mining a central database called the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) when they calculate how much to quote potential consumers.

The database keeps records on hundreds of thousands of calls made every year by car, home, personal injury customers who wish to report an incident, regardless if they ever proceed to make a claim. As of later this year, travel insurance customers will be placed on the database.

Taken verbatim from today's Times. The rest of the article is quite worrying - I nearly reported something a few weeks ago that I'll not be claiming for.
One woman asked her leaking sink was covered, was told it wasn't so she had the work done privately. Then she tried to renew her home insurance she got an on line quote for £427.37p, but when she went to the company direct they quoted her £1,127 and told her it had gone up because of her reporting the sink.
