Purchasing some music from Holland priced at 12.50 euros and payment requested is via paypal.

Will I get hit with currency charges and does it go to my visa account or whatever?

Only ever done one paypal payment and I cannot remember the proceedure at the moment.

you do get charged a currency conversion fee. i cant remember what it is.

IIRC, there are 2 ways of doing it.

1. You use your paypal account, you get charged the conversion fee, but your visa is charged in GBP (if you dont have have funds in your paypal account)

2. You can use paypal without an account, and I believe that your card will get charged in Euros. Paypal is just the processor in this case.

The currency conversion fee isnt ridiculous from what I remember on either Paypal or Visa. Often the cheapest way of sending money abroad. I once needed to get payment in dollars to somebody who wouldnt do electronic payments and wanted a cheque. I was quoted a fortune to sort this, so had to send cash in the end- it was luckily only $50!

Thanks Marcos.

Incidentally I never received email notification of your message above, it is now 10.08am over two hours since you posted. ukworkshop problems perhaps?

I use PayPal for overseas payment and receiving all the time and their currency conversions seem very fair to me.

i think you probably get a far better rate than at the travel agents anyway, so it offsets any fee for conversion. I use it a lot for buying items from denmark and it always seems fair to me.
