I'm making some alcove shelves, torsion box construction using 9mm MR MDF faces and 20mm softwood frame, so the final thickness is 38mm. I'm trying to decide on the best edge treatment, and I'm leaning towards iron on paintable tape. Does anyone know if I can apply it over the MDF/softwood/MDF edge instead of gluing on a 6mm or 9mm MR MDF edging? Will the different layers of the sandwich telegraph through the tape? Seems like a nice easy way to avoid any exposed MDF edges on face or edge of the shelves, but am I missing something?

I've got a feeling it might show through. I've only used it on mdf edges and that wasn't iron on it was put on by my panel supplier cutwrights.

Cheers for the input Chippy, I've ordered a sample so I'll have a play with it and see how it goes.
