Paint stripping

I have a USA made Stanley plane no 4 with the most god awful green paint on the lot of it What is the safest way of getting the paint off. I as thinking nitromorze but don’t want to damage the metal. Please advise. Thanks

I buy citric acid powder from ebay. Soak old tools in it to remove rust, grime, oil even seems to get old glue off.

If the paint is in poor condition (and you have some other rusty tools to chuck in at the same time) it might be a low cost, low risk place to start from.

Nitromors has now been reformulated to meet the new EU 'Elf-N-Safety' requirements. So it's pretty puling, compared to the old days. If it doesn't get the green off, go online and get a litre of Dichloromethane [Methylene chloride, in the demotic]. That's the original - and effective - paintstripper. But wear a mask and nitrile gloves . . . .

And no; it won't touch cast iron.
