A lesson was learned a short while ago:

Always check the tool rest is nice and secure, as Sod's Law will manifest itself particularly when you are in the final stages of completing a project :x .

Thanks for the comments guys.

It's a pity that the first one when clack, clack, clack, bang! It had a nice figuring from the crotch area where as the second one has a much plainer figuring.

Still, at the end of the day, the thing is, what I really mean is, oh bu@@er I've no one else to blaim, well apart from that pesky, fiddly, cheapo tool rest bristol lever locking mechanism....(and the operator).
