I'll have to let you know that in 6 weeks time, as I'm on crutches with my leg in a cast having snapped my achilles. Trying it out isn't really an option.

I just meant the iron at least doesn't belong with the rest of the plane because Stanley had lateral adjusters well before they used that trademark.
 
Wow, Jake. This one is a real puzzle. I've not seen a body casting like that ever. The roughness of the casting leads me to think it was craftsman made or a prototype. The frog looks like an early prelateral Stanley so that piece alone may be worth more than you paid for the plane. :lol:

Thanks, Roger. Yes, it does have a bit of a home-made look to it. Even the frog is pretty rough but I've not seen a contemporary Stanley or other factory made one to compare it to. I guess it is going to remain a puzzle.
