I have an old office desk that I have lightly sanded down, was thinking of varnishing the top but what varnish is the best to use, the top is a veneer on chip board.
This desk will be used in my hobby room for candle making.

I don't have a fraction of the experience of most of the members on this site, but based on my limited experience and having looked into doing a similar thing, my choice would be to use Osmo Polx Oil-Satin Matt-Clear.
Gives an excellent finish, it's durable, easier to apply than varnish and is easily repaired and reapplied if need be. I also find it provides a good base if any spills, glues, etc. etc need to be cleaned off.

Thanks for the advise of Osmo Polx oil-satin, I will see if I can get some and have a go.
I will be moving the desk up stairs to my hobby room now I have done the cleaning part, it will be a nicer place to work on it, away from the shed.
Thanks again Reg
