hi just a simple on this time, what sort of price are members paying for new dried, square edge oak?been looking at sl hardwoods on't internet are these prices about right?cheers mark.

Hi just had a look on sl hardwoods site. Assuming you were looking at the european square edged price this works out at £50+vat a cubic ft for 1 inch thick timber and £65+vat for 2 inch thick. These prices seem a little high to me but i am used to buying in large quantities. I usually pay between £25 and £30 a cube for 1 inch and £35 ish for 2 inch. American White Oak is quite a bit cheaper.

Not over here,White Oak is more expensive then Red Oak.....I can buy Red Oak for 3.00 a board ft ,White Oak is 3.80 a board Ft ...of course this probably won`t help you over there much.....postage would kill the deal.

Yes, but european oak isn't red oak (or white oak), so that's apples and pears.

Here I thought you Blokes brought it over ,when you came here years ago...Kinda like the breadfruit trip in M. on the Bounty ....Mister Christian!!

£50 does sound dear! I've been paying only £32-34/ft3 for 1" waney-edged English Oak!

We are actually planting trees faster than we harvest them GO. We have have more tree cover now than since the start of the 20 Century.
