A lot has been said about table saw kickback dangers but I haven't seen any on a drum sander.
I was sanding an acoustic guitar back at about 200mm wide x 3mm thick. The abrasive paper feed belt had seen better days so, when it tore a bit, I stuck on some shiny silver duct tap. My bit of wood went through a couple of times until it decided to shoot out backwards extremely quickly, and at belly level. Luckily it skewed as it exited the machine and just glanced my side.
I think it was because the tape was just thick enough to lift the wood so it lost its grip on the feed belt. I changed it immediately.
