Can you tell me what is the best and cheapest seal to use on branches/ logs to stop them from splitting. I have heard of using PVA glue, but what do you mix it with?. I have just finished my build of wood stors to air dry any stock i can come across, and i need to have trusted seal ready.

Hi Dermot.

Cheapest end seal? What ever you have around, old paint and such like. Preferably oil paint in my experience. Anything which is moisture proof to a certain extent and can be painted on, or the wood dipped in.

PVA you can bash down with water to about 50/50 to use as a seal, bit more expensive in my opinion that cheap paints.

If you have a candle workshop by you, do as I do. Buy up the old drips, runs, and the candle ends, melt in a baking tray on a electric plate and dip the wood ends into it.

Hi Pete, screwfix are doing 5lt pva for £4-99 at 50-50 mix should last a while.
