Hi,
I watched videos of how to build a green oak frame . Saw they put a metal pin at the base going down into the footing. Does it matter how thick that metal rod is? My beams are 200x200 and I have A4 stainless steel threaded rods i am thinking of using they are 10mm . I was thinking to put 20mm in but now I am thinking that when the oak shrinks on top of a 20mm rod it might be too thick and cause the oak to split and do more damage than good. It does not feel that the thicker rod would be a better choice.
What do you think? do you have experience with this? I am guessing 10mm rod would be sufficient to keep the beam in place.
