Hi all looking for thoughts and or advice. I currently have a Fobco Star pillar drill that seems to satisfy my needs. However a Meddings MB4 MkIII has popped up on Facebook marketplace for a reasonable amount, £280.

The MB4 has a two speed gear box so a much wider range of speeds. It also has a MT2 arbor and looks generally better constructed than the Fobco.

My Fobco has a tiny bit of runout, about 0.2mm at the end of a 150mm bar, that I just can’t get rid of. Completely unimportant to my woodworking but it annoys me!

Is the MB4 a big upgrade over the Fobco, or is it better the devil I know with old machines!
