MDF edge lipping

Is Glue alone enough to secure solid wood face frames on book cases and on 3/4 MDF desk top edges?
I was thinking of making a rebated lipping that covered the front edge and went under the MDF to give a larger glue up surface?

I would normally use solid wood but on my last visit to my wood supplier I blagged 3 sheets of oak veneered MDF for fiver a sheet that were slightly damaged.

Yes glue alone is fine, I use a caul to apply lippings to veneered MDF to spread the pressure.
If you’re really unsure glue up a test piece, I did this years ago & the MDF was torn apart trying to get the oak off.
