I am re-arranging the layout of my garage workshop ( no Car ever goes into it), this will be the 4th or 5th time I have done so, I have decided to make my own workbench come outfeed table.

I wish to put an end vice into the bench, I do want to pay the price of a ready made one, anyone any Idea how to make one using the York Plain Screw Vice Guides that are on sale at Axminster's.

All help would be appreciated

Edit

The reason for Dual use of bench as an outfeed table is due to limited space, I intend to have drawers and cupboards under the bench for storage and an easy way to clear the bench when using it as an outfeed table, I will make the drawers so they slide out from both sides of the bench for easy access.

Denny,

I think you are headed for perpetual misery if you make your workbench your outfeed table. I guarantee you will have stuff that you don't want to move off it, every time you need an outfeed table!

Denny,

If you know anyone with a copy of The Workbench Book by Scott Landis, there are a few different examples of end vices, with construction details, which would be well worth looking at.

Beware! That book is 'workbench pornography'. It stopped me building a practical and useful bench for about 3 months, as I planned the most wonderful, good looking, all singing, all dancing bench of my dreams...

However, it does indeed have a good section on vice construction

There is a plan for a bench and tail vice in Joyce's book 'Techniques of Furniture Making' which is where I got mine from or there were some excellent articles in F&C a while ago on making a tail vice - Rob

Shady,

I have the book so I know what you mean. But in the end I built mine from MDF - much quicker and just as good
