Hi, this is my first attempt at a segmented piece, it still needs finishing and polishing, I would like to give it a high gloss finish and would like ideas on how I can achieve it please :D

Very nice

For high gloss you could grain fill it with a sanding sealer (shellac etc) then either multiple coats of thin wax buffed between coats or carefully applied spray on melamine lacquer. Also multiple thin coats.

All depends upon what if anything you have already applied and what equipment you have.

Simplest is cellulose sanding sealer and Carnauba wax.
For a finish that will be even more resistant to handling cellulose sanding sealer and Microcrystalline wax.

Both of the above very much enhanced if you have a buffing system to prepare the sealed surface. (see my bits and pieces below)

Alternate if you want an even deeper gloss verging on a 'plastic' looking coating then sanding sealer followed by melamine lacquer, but melamine lacquer application on such a large piece is not easy to master as it skins rapidly and it is difficult to avoid build up streaks.
If you have not used it before then the spray version is easier to use, (spray can application is an art in itself though to avoid runs or misting bloom)
Once melamine enhanced lacquer has cured or at least started to cure (a couple of days) so that the skin is hardened you can use a buffing cream to increase the gloss and even out minor dust blemishes etc.

thankyou for your replies, I will turn a small bowl and try the techniques on that before I try it on my big piece do not want to spoil it, when I have finished it I will put another pic of it on to show you thanks again
