i had some little scraps of oak knocking around and thought i would have a go at a box. It came together quite quickly till i started to look for hinges, not easy unless you want bru$$o, they are a bit spendy :? this is scrap after all.

so i decided i would try to make a hinge very fiddly to do :-s but works ok and gives an otherwise plain box some interest. Wadaya think?

My compliments too. The availability and cost of decent brass hinges and in sizes to suit timber thickness is what persuades me to go for drop in lids.

Sliding lids remind me of pencil boxes so your solution is another way to go.
