Lathe wobble

Anyone know how to solve this or should I send it back under warrenty

Looks to me as if the hand wheel thread is a little off centre.
I can't see anything wrong with 4 pronged centre rotation which is the important end of the machine.

I'd send the link to Axminster Customer Service - they have been good in the past

Interesting to see what others say

+1 for that comment, it's significance is whether the hand wheel is out of balance enough to cause machine vibration.

Could try removing hand wheel and looking at rear spindle for run-out, if none, try reseating hand wheel to see if it centres better.

If you look closely at the tip of the centre you can see it move up and down as it rotates

The point of the spur drive wobbles, but the threaded end of the spindle doesn't appear to be off centre at all

Agree but the wheel at the back wobbles and the centre has been cleaned and resat a number of times

I'm definitely no expert on lathes or lathe work ...but my take on that is that you may be told (if you bother to moan to your retailer) that it's within tolerance for a woodlathe.

Unless you've spent several £k you may end up being ok with accepting it as is ... but equally you may be able to return it to your retailer for a new one if it's deemed unfit for purpose or if your retailer is good at customer service.

Which lathe is it as a matter of interest? (Edit : So that I don't buy one! ... the grinding sharp metallic noise would be enough to put me off!!)

Do you have a chuck or faceplate to mount on the spindle?

Either should show amplified run-out deflection if there is any, looking at the centre point of the drive centre in relation to the periphery of the centre it looks to me that it could well be the Drive Centre itself that is out of true and not the spindle Morse taper or Chuck Mounting register.
