Lathe bars

Hi

I have a Record lathe, the type with 48" long round bars. It's in storage, partly because it's too big for my garage workshop. I don't need a lathe this long now. Would anyone with a smaller Record be interested in swapping bars. If so PM me.

why not just cut or replace the bars

Wouldn't be the first to cut solid bars down on a similar sized lathe, but unless you have metal cutting horizontal bandsaw be prepared for a fitness test.

Actually I thought I might be doing someone a favour. It's easy to cut 48" down to 36", but not the other way.

I also have that type of lathe (older Coronet No.1). Bars too long but decided to rearrange the workshop rather than face a marathon hacksaw session.
