OK not turning, but hey, we all appreciate great craftsmanship. You folks who are good at the segmented stuff will especially like this, I am in awe.

Would not have believed it possible if I had not seen it being done.

Can't imagine how well he prepares his tools for starters, just wonder how many years of experience and dedication to the art have gone into such perfection.

Thanks for posting the link Kim, more hours to loose drifting off into associated video threads.

We had someone who uses Japanese planes demoing at our club and it was really amazing how thin and clean he could shave wood. This video is really amazing, a good example of the skill level amongst the japanese wood workers in general.

Yes stunning - but having just spent 3 hours sharpening planes, chisels and marking knives this afternoon, I'm now deflated as none of my tools can be that sharp.
Might just try and Google Japanese sharpening!

I can't read Japanese, but I'm fairly sure that somewhere in the text it said "This is rather more difficult than it looks, don't try it at home, if you do it'll just end up in tears !"

I'd always wondered how they did those patterns, now I know I'm even more impressed.
