So when I bought my van I got £800 off the asking price as it needed four new boots and the gearbox was a little, erm, dodgy. Fine, I could live with that. Then the alternator failed (you may remember my rant). On my way down to Brum the other evening, she spat her alternator belt onto the motorway and I had to get recovered from Knutsford services.

The OEM sized 6pk belt had been rubbing on the inside edge. This had torn the belt down the length as well as making it weaker, leading to it snapping. The single rib that remained had wrapped itself around the shafts of the alternator and PAS pump. I managed to unravel these bits but now my PAS pump is pissing out around the shaft seal. (I've since fitted a 5pk which is narrower and it doesn't rub).

Luckily, I've found a company in Tamworth who have a reman in stock for £60. Money I could do without spending (I've had to borrow it from my nan) but better than £150 for a new one.

When will it ever end?

I have to admit, this one has turned into a bit of a lemon :( I've never had this much trouble before. Then again, ashamedly, I did buy this on the spur of the moment as I was without transport and needed a van asap. With the budget I had there wasn't a lot around that didn't require asking my dad to take me 50+ miles each way.

Oh well, I'll have to make do and mend. Once I've fitted a new gearbox, clutch and cam belt it should be good for another 80k miles at least. I've two glow plugs that need drilling out but I'll worry about that when it drops to - temps and it hesitates to start.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, you're right though "When sorrows come, they come not single spies but in battalions." never feels more accurate than when funds are tight, time is short, tempers too, and the weather's **** to boot.

It sounds better than my car

Chin up, play the rocky theme tune, insert motivational speech here and go get 'em tiger!

Seriously though I won't bore you with mine but just to say keep going, there's always a sunny day in the future even if you are like me and seem stuck on groundhog day!

Dean.
