Is wood from a silversmiths shop safe to use???

I have spotted a guy selling old wooden forms ect from a 100yr old silversmith's shop for a quid a kilo. Is this wood safe for turning on a lathe?

Would you buy it??

No reason at all to presume it's not. There are few nasty substances used in silversmithing, and they wouldn't get anywhere near the woodwork. It's highly unlikely to have embedded metal and even if it did it would be a soft metal.

I believe I saw that a while ago - Sheffied, iirc? It could be interesting - much of it could be lignum, greenheart and other very hard woods, from the nature of its usage and its age - anything soft would be no earthly use long term.
