Is a 3" chuck big enough?

Having a look at getting my first chuck and found this.... Rutlands chuck

Being a 3" chuck (although listed dimensions put it at just under 3") sounds fairly small but reading the reviews people have said they turned 8"bowls... i was thinking it's more for a mini lathe but there is no mention of that.

Will it be suitable for My Axminster?

Looks to be a good match to me, I think the chuck will be fine if it has the jaw sets you require for your projects. Oh and the correct thread size of course.

That chuck will be ideal for your small lathe. I had the same chuck with all the jaws & an aluminium case for a number of years. There is a little slop in the carriers but as long as the jaws tighten concentrically that's nothing to worry about.
