I think that is for an iPad 4. As far as i know the latest iPads have the smaller connector, I think it's called a lighting plug like on the iphone 5?

But I have the earlier iPad so I am not entirely sure.

iPhone 5 and later have the much smaller "Lighting" connector so that would only work with iPhone 4's or earlier ones.

I have an Apple TV ( which isn't a TV ) but a tiny box connected by a HDMI cable to the TV - you can send contents from your iPhones, iPads, laptops etc through your Router to the TV. It does lots of other things too - iplayer, YouTube, download films etc etc.

They do them for the lightning connector on the new ipads but they are more expensive like THIS

They also do connectors for HDMI, sd cards cameras etc.

Just to be clear, the last iPad to use the larger (30-pin) dock connector was the iPad 3. Last year's iPad 4 and iPad Mini, and this year's iPad Air (AKA iPad 5), and iPad Mini with retina display (AKA iPad Mini 2) all use the smaller 'Lightning' connector.

If you want to use an adapter that will also work with your TV, then HDMI is probably a better bet than VGA, assuming your monitor & TV are relatively recent i.e. with HDMI-in. Also be aware that the iPad screen will simply be 'mirrored' on the TV or big monitor i.e. it won't act as a second independent display.
