Identifying wood

I am in need of a book to identify wood (not particularly the trees themselves, but the wood) and am torn between two , "what wood is that" by Edlin and "Identifying Wood: Accurate Results with Simple Tools" by Hoadley.
I need to keep it simple so any other suggestions you may have would be appreciated.

I have the Edlin book, and it has the unusual feature that it includes real veneer samples of 40 of the commonest woods - far better than photos!
