Hi All

I recently picked up this little hone on FleaBay and after a bit of a clean-up...it revealed a beautiful pattern in the rock....

I have a feeling it is a soft Arkansas from the Ouachita Mountain....like this one HERE but I would like confirmation...

Here is a close-up....

It is very soft....slurry is easy to raise...and it cuts well and relatively fast too.

Any ideas....guys and gals......BB?

My best reference is the TATHS one, so you know as much as I do.

Just a quick update on this one...as I know there are a few hone lovers on here.

I kept thinking that soft Arkansas was not correct purely because of the age and likelihood of this being of British origin rather than American.

I thought I would put the question to some Americans on a razor site I visit occasionally (only for hones you understand!)....and THIS was the reply.

I had guessed it was a Tam O'Shanter but wanted confirmation...and it seems it is indeed one of the Scottish variants...Dalmore (I hope)...Tam O'Shanter or Ayr

So there you have it...another one for the collection.

Recently I tried it out on a few edges and is really is fine but quite fast...makes a slurry just by looking at it...it's that soft.

I like this type of hone because it is close to the Coticule in softness...requires a little gentleness and gives a good final polish.
