Actually I was a bit disappointed they didn't pick up a shaving and show it to the camera - the first (all Japanese) video evidently had a really nice piece of wood and a new blade - the way the shavings came off was simply amazing.

Having Googled a bit, the same company makes veneer knives and cutting systems. Their merry-go-round system for making veneer from planks is quite fun to watch, but I can't now find the YouTube vid
