Is there anything that can be done or useable product to prevent this sapele from splitting any further.

It's going to be a chopping board so of course anything will need to be food safe.

I cant see the image but you can fill with epoxy perhaps superglue too.

If it was subjected to a severe moisture change it may self fix when it goes back to its normal environment. Not sue whh i cant see the picture.

They look like old splits (is it a reclaimed board?), if so they'll be full of dust so forcing glue into the splits and cramping them up probably wouldn't work as you need really clean surfaces for glue to hold. Filling with tinted epoxy is an option, personally i don't like the effect as even if you get a good colour match it'll be much glossier than the surrounding wood..

So if I was you I'd make a feature out of the splits with some butterfly splines,

Good luck!

I wouldn't bother trying to repair those splits. Either cut them out and re-join the wood or start again with another piece of wood.

Cheers

Why make a food cutting board out of a wood that tastes horrible?

+ 1 Above, not the best wood to make a chopping board from, I'd use it for something else!

It was an off cut from someone's order but as the timber yard cant sell pieces like this one they through them in the bin, I just happened to be there when it was thrown away so I couldn't just leave it.

Can't say I've ever tried eating it.

I thought about cutting it up but I have plenty of the stuff so kept till I could find a use... the missus said she could do with a big chopping board, after my last two attempts failed.

I will try and take better pics I'm sure the cracks are worse at the opposite end.
