Hi All,

Fairly new to woodworking but I have bought a few bits of hardwood Oak and Mahogany (just thinking of something to do with them on the scroll saw and maybe a little box or two) I currently use T W Parker for my hardwood and they are pretty good there but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other places that has a good selection. Or if anyone around this area that has a shop and has off cuts / scrap that they would want clearing for them

Various sizes really but the pieces i have bought so far have been 1000mm in length by 100mm and either 9 or 12 mm thick. I want to get hold of some various sizes to select from and some 6mm thick for some small boxes. Really whatever scrap i can get i will take to be honest as i do scrolling so can use most bits.

I plan on making a media unit out of a light and dark hardwood mix probably oak an maybe walnut or mahogany in the future so im just trying to get use to how it cuts, sands finishes etc as i have only used pine and sheets before.

I find Them a little bit expensive so the way I do it is, I go to the timber yard armed with the cheapest quote I can find from anywhere, when they tell me their price, I tell them I can get it for so much from so and so and they either match or better the price. :wink:

I'll remember that one. T w parker are pretty reasonable really if you have not used them they are worth a visit. The hardwood side of the business is along the a10 just after the Waltham cross round about.

Chiltern Timber in Hemel Hempstead have some decent dry hardwood in smaller sizes. Might be worth dropping by if you're near.
