SWMBO brought home a plank of Monterrey Pine and demanded a side table be made from it
I want to finish the top with hardwax oil but the boss wants the pink colouring in the wood to show up. Should I use a base coat to bring out the colouring or will the hard wax oil do the job on its own?

Test on the underside or on an offcut, that's the best way to find out what any finish will do to the colour of any wood.

In general with all oils or oil finishes if the liquid is a sort of straw to honey colour it'll impart a slight yellowness which may not be what the boss wants here.
