Hello

I would like to ask , which of these three brands would you recommend for a top notch kitchen?

Würth does not seem to have so much of a choice of components as the others, so basically I would like to know whether to go with Hafele or else with Blum. Both seem good quality. I am looking for the slow-motion drawers and cabinet doors etc. Preferably built-in pistons in the runners/hinges rather than syringe pistons embedded on the other side of the cabinet.

Thanks for any suggestions through experience with any of these brands.

For hinges there's little in it between Blum and Salice. Hettich are almost as good. Hafele are distributors, so depending on what you buy the original maker could be Grass, Ferrari, etc. Stuff like Lama and FGV (on B&Q these days) aren't as good, IMHO. I'd recommend going for a clip-on hinge with a cam adjuster base as they are quick and easy to adjust. Women seem to particularly like the convenience of being to unclip and remove a door for spring cleaning, etc. For anyone interested B&Q currently sell the Salice soft close units at a fraction of what Blums cost - and they're just as good (Salice specialise in supplying manufacturing industry in the UK)

For drawers there's probably not much to choose from between Blum and Hettich, although Grass do an excellent drawer system if you can find it. Ikea are currently selling a version of the Blum drawers for their own (non-standard size) kitchen units which might be another useful way to cut cists. I'm not convinced that soft close has any real advantages on drawers, though.

I'll second that. I think the clip-on hinges are a real boon, both from a fitters and a users point of view. Fitted some relatively cheap B&Q clip-on ones to a bathroom cabinet I made recently and found them quite good for a job that doesn't need top of the range fittings.

I use Hafele for most of my hardware but I use Blum for soft close drawerslides - find them to be much higher quality than any that Hafele offer.

I have been 'volunteered' to do two large kitchens, strange territory for me. I've had a good look at the Blum website for info, but where best to buy this stuff, please?

thanks for your replies - Tim which one of the Blum range do you use for kitchen drawers?

I get my Blum stuff mostly from Isaac Lord and sometimes from Woodfit. If you are ordering a lot of stuff make sure you get the trade price, the difference is significant.

Blum only do two ranges - the Tandembox, which is top of the line and has the soft close options, sink pull-outs, space corners, etc. and the Metabox which is extremely serviceable single skin steel or runner system. DON'T buy the Metabox EVER - it is now well out of patent and has been copied by everyone and his dog. All the copies I've seen to date from Malaysian Harn brand to no-name Italian have been as good as the original (well almost) but at 1/2 or even 1/3 of the best price I can buy original Metabox at.

I use Tandembox with the softclose mech incorporated - Woodfit code begins UBI. As John says - definitely worth going for trade pricing.

Cheers

I would recommend to go for Blum for the soft close drawer slides or hinges because they are easy to adjust.Though I like Hafele too for other stuffs.
