I'm pretty certain it's a book, but it's partially obscured by a grubby hand. HTH

Hi

Could be a tool for holding the two ends of a cycle chain in place as the split link is inserted.

Regards Mick

Well it's American!

You're absolutely correct:
Little Women is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888) written between 1868 and 1869 in Concord, Massachusetts and Boston. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Women

Another mystery solved, I feel my work here is done.

Kev,,any chance the hand might be of a confederate soldier holding a tool used to remove little women from horses hooves ??

Yes. They are chain link removers. I think the bottom one might be for motorbike chain.

Made in Birmingham. Pay no more than £2.65!
