I've seen this posted on another forum:

The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting they were unable to deliver a parcel and that
you need to contact them on 0906 661 1911 (a premium rate number).
DO NOT call this number as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If
you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed for the call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail
Fraud on 0207 239 6655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at
www.icstis.org.uk <http>.
This is a genuine scam and is under investigation by the ICSTIS

I don't know how genuine this is (some strange people get off on promulgating false warnings  ) but I thought it worth mentioning here just in case anyone waiting for an overseas delivery might take such a card at face value.

I quite understand, Rob. In fact, Luddite that I am, the only telephone pricing codes I understand are:

0800 - free
0845 - local rate
01*** - standard rate.

I hope I've got those right! Anything else, I don't dial, and that includes mobile phones.

I think that should be

0800 - free
01*** - standard rate.
0845 - local rate

With "please pres 1 for?? please pres 2 for ?? it can be 5 min before you get close to someone (from the asia)

'Sfunny - the STD code for the town where I live begins 01***. So do the codes for other towns, so far as I'm aware. Birmingham is 0121, Manchester is 0161, Huddersfield is 01484.

London is different, but I suppose that's to be expected.

I don't understand your post, stairman.

Gill

Cardiff and Southampton are two I can think of that begin 02***,as well as inner and outer London
