Hi all, I want to make a floating vanity unit for the wife's beauty salon. The idea is that a small belfast sink will sit atop the unit, which will be a hardwood shelf with a drawer on either side of the drain plumbing. There's a bit of weight in the sink, and the timber itself, any tips on the best way to attach to the wall etc? There is no problem accessing the studs as the partition wall is only being built (not by me). Cheers

You could get some steel into the partition which is what I have done on several occasions or if a solid wall box it out to hide the fixings. Sometimes you can do it with unistrut others just fabricate or get it fabricated a couple of plates to fix to the sides of the studs with arms that come out that the top of the carcase can rest on.

If it were just in a domestic situation and a small vanity you could get away with heavy duty kitchen cabinet type hangers but in a salon it may get a bit more abuse so would not risk it.

Are the photos of your work Jason? Really nice work - the wife loves pic #2! Cheers, just the info I needed, will pop some metal in the stud

Yes

How tall will the draws be? there is one other method that may work if they are not too shallow

Couldnt you use a french cleat system intead of just letting it sit (which i think would work) you could use a decent glue on bothe mounting faces?

Maybe 6" deep, but it's not set in stone. I'd be interested to hear the alternative…
