Just seen a facebook post in which a hackers group that wear the V masks when publishing anything have declared war on ISIS and vowed to take down their IT network.

Favourite reply to the post so far "Not the 72 virgins they were expecting then"

:)

Thing is Droogs, these people actually do have the power to do some good in this context. They can wreak havoc at least on public fora and they can bring down multiple websites and keep them closed. They really do have an adaptive response in terms of controlling website access and so on. Much as I disagree with their general ethos, what they claim to be doing at the moment I'd like to support in this case. But the pertinent point is we've been here before. Like all teenagers they get bored quickly and move on to the next thing in 30 seconds flat. If they could stay focused and bring down a large percentage of these websites that are so vital to the likes of IS or Al Qaeda I'm sure they could all get Govt. funding for life.
But I think this is the 4/5 time Ive heard this malarkey off em. Next week is probably GCSE exam week and you'll never hear of it again. Until next time....
Joke's solid tho. 8)

It is bollocks. If we really cared about twittering and face booking and instagramming etc being a big terrorism problem, we would simply say to the (always US) companies involved: allow extremism that endangers us on your websites and we will shut you down in Europe faster than you can plan a tax avoidance strategy. Some people would squeal about censorship. Oh well.

While I agree with your meaning, with all due respect I think you miss the point a little of how important the internet is to the younger generation. It's not about twitter or facebook its about forums that are a gateway to radicalisation. The people that are looking at this stuff are not that interested in facebook etc. They left that stuff behind months ago to be even looking at these sites.
It's a means to an end. The twitterati and all that malarkey are not involved because they don't have access and they are 6 months behind in internet terms. You can't just jump on these sites to say hello. They aint social networking sites they are an invite only world of brain washing and indoctrination.
Young people are susceptible to it, if those sites are not available that bile is not available.
I'm not comparing twitter or other social media to these websites. They exist in a different world.
Regards
Chris

Edit: I don't mean to be terse or rude, I just feel strongly about it. No offense meant in any shape or form. Sorry if I've caused any offence. Last thing I'd want to do.
Cheers.
Chris

To be honest the security services probably gain far more from these sites remaining active than some bunch of hackers closing them down .Lets hope surveillance aren't about to find out some info just as they close them down.
