fantastic! I love two things about this
1) the use of only two tools - when I think about the number that we tend to buy it makes me think!
2) knocking on the previously produced head of the doll and then turning in the entire shape - great thought for boxes (not seen it done before, maybe I've just missed it!)
 
There is Russian turner demonstrating this at the German theme park, Europa Park
What also amazed me was the fact that they only use a knock on spring steel chucking system.
First thing in the day the guy spends about 30 minutes honing the edges of his skews with a tatty bit of stone until they are razor sharp, the wood used looks like Lime, might be Birch though.

The guy in Germany uses forged 'hammer head' skews and a home made forged ring tools, from what I could gather they have to make them as part of the turner training much like Japanese doll turners.
