Just got a Trend honing guide with a lovely wide roller but have found that very rapidly, the wheel starts to become sticky, presumably from water ingress from the diamond stone.

To counter this, is it ok to use light oil as a lubricant on diamond stones, perhaps something thin like WD40.
I've heard varying advice on this, from its fine, to, it can attack the bond of the diamonds.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Cheers.

I was always told only use water on diamond stones, this clears residue. Oil will make it stick. Have i been led astray ?

I've been using paraffin on my DMT for years now and no problems, for what it's worth. Well lamp oil akshully; for the benefit of me delicate sense of smell, don'tcha know.

Huh. When I got mine (20+ years ago) the advice was to use them dry, then clean with soap and water when the swarf started to build up. This is with diamonds bonded to a stainless steel plate. So far, so good.
