Hi All,

I am looking to created some bespoke gates for my driveway. The drive is approximately 4m wide, so would be looking for two swinging doors. I really like the solid wood convex look - similar to this, but imagine a gate, rather than a bed head: http://www.bedfactorydirect.co.uk/orlando-wooden-bed-frame

I have undertaken smaller woodworking projects before with success, but nothing this large, and everything so far has been for indoor use. I was looking for some advice on recommended wood to use? Best water/weatherproofing advice? And Any tips on how the convex shape at the top of the gates can be created? Recommendations on where to buy some nice metal hinges would also be great, as my local B&Q has a terrible selection.

Thanks for your help,
Tash

Here is a better example of the wooden gates I am looking to create - https://www.blockpavinganddriveways.co.uk/driveway-gates/ (the wooden gates, not the metal ones). Except, I wouldn't want the gaps, but instead solid timber all the way through. Is it possible to bend top timber to create the arch? Or is it cut into this shape? Or can I buy it pre-shaped? My biggest concern is ensuring that it is symmetrical.

Thanks again,
Tash

Exactly what I am looking to make! A template is a great idea to ensure they are even.
