This is a clog maker in The Netherlands with with an interesting gouge for hollowing out the clogs and also he has quite an ingenious holding device for the clog.

There was a couple of 1920's/30's videos posted here a while back showing craftsmen is Sweden and the Netherlands I think, the ones in Holland were making clogs, showed it right from start to end, ie shaping wood, hollowing out and finishing. Really interesting, used a similiar holding method and giant auger thingy.

Hello,

the tool is a "spoon drill", not a gouge. Just a little larger than usual today.

Have a nice day,

János

The ingenious wedged bench is apparently called a clave. According to Salaman's dictionary of woodworking tools it was also favoured by people making pulley blocks for ships - presumably before Marc Brunel invented machines to make them.
