Hi folks

Have at last managed to get into the shed, after all the snow and frost. \:D/

It is a piece of Burr Elm kindly donated by Oakbear (Thanks Ryan)
Approx 4" at the widest by 2 1/2" high finished in danish oil. The finish is not as good as I hoped but by the time I got to finishing it my fingers were nearly frozen
Hope you like and any comments greatly appreciated.

Malcolm

Don't know about frozen fingers Malcolm that looks more like a finger shredder!!
Nice piece of timber and you've turned it into an interesting piece.

Hi Malcolm

The timber is really nice but the form doesn't really do it for me. The harsh square base is probably what is turning me off. I think it would have been nice to either make it more rounded or make the base much slimmer.

Just my opinion and what do I know? ;)

Thanks for the comments guys, Tom the reason for the shape is that is roughly the shape of the blank it was a wedge to start with.

Malcolm

Very nice Malcolm !

I posted a Burr Elm Box a while back, very very similar shape to this but with a lid ! - got same comments about the base etc, and I also was constrained by a wedge shaped blank !

would be nice to get bigger pieces to play with !

Was it very dusty/crumbly to work with ?

All the best

Shape colour style with the nat edge all works for me..
Could do with members taking pics and posting their
lumps of wood with the finished article..just a thought

My shed stinks of danish oil...was using some on bowl forgot to put
lid back on..yep all over the shed floor
at least one area of the floor looks great though
