Bathroom ceiling paint (above shower) - advice needed pls

Hi folks,

Quick bit of advice if possible please.

We have a shower with the white ceiling above slopping at 45deg as built into roof and prob less than 2 feet between top of shower and lowest part of roof with the result it does get steam condensing on it and over time a black mildew like staining appears.

It is currently pained with a standard quality Matt emulsion (Dulux iirc).

I've cleaned the ceiling with water / Milton fluid, are there any paints out there that will resist a reoccurrence on this problem?

Several anti mould paints on the market - Ronseal gets good reviews.
Any chance of improving the ventilation with say an extractor fan?

never have to paint again. Do the walls as well for complete maintenance free. A plus is that it isnt freezing cold to the touch in winter

Get a dulux bathroom/kitchen paint. I had some standard matt paint and thought i could use it up in the bathroom. After I showered all the mortar joints between the concrete blocks showed through- the paint got much darker/wetter where the mortar was.
A couple coats of duluxs bathroom/kitchen paint and the problem was immediately gone. The paint costs a bit more than there standard paint but does seem worth the extra.

Very light, pretty cheap, easy to handle as only 250mm wide and you just cut to length, T&G and they have some insulating properties as well. White is the most common but can get colours and grain patterns as well as chrome detailing.
I've put up loads over the years and the cheapest places to buy are from various plastic centres which seem to be in every largish industrial estate. (The type who sell PVC cladding, facia boards etc).
All I do to fix is use a decent liquid nails or silicone on the back, use a staple gun to temporary fix where the staples won't be seen. It's a better job if you use edging all around either 1 part U channel or 2 part system which has a clip on cap.
Apart from many customer work my own has been up 7 years without problem, just needs a wipe now and then.

I also covered a shower room with the upvc t&g boards, I used the marble effect and had first class looks and results.

We have a wet room for our son who has cerebral palsy, due to very bad circulation in his legs he spends hours sat under a hot shower, and our ceiling very quickly went black with mildew, after several attempts to repaint it a friend recommended zinser perma white paint, I got some from Brewers paint suppliers, that was over 2 years ago the ceiling still looks as good as the day I painted it.

Out of curiosity, because that would inflate your energy bills do you receive any sort of financial aid towards them? I'm not trying to make a point, just genuinely interested.

Anyway, our bathroom ceiling is pitched. The ceiling above the bath is barely high enough for me to stand without banging my head, and I'm only 5'10". So the shower head probably sits about 6" below it. As with everything else in the house, the landlord did a quick botched job and painted the ceiling with the cheapest white paint they could find (I know because there are tins under the stairs that I've used for touch ups). As a result the paint has blistered and peeled off in places when I've banged my head.

Not to hijack the thread too much, but at this proximity will the above suggestions work at all or will the distance form the steam keep causing problems?

Another vote for a branded, Crown man myself, dedicated bathroom paint. Well worth the extra couple of quid.
