Bandsaw sanding belts

I have a belt sander, but wondered what it would be like to use the band saw as a belt sander. One can get the belts in the USA - here for example.

I know Felder have an option to do that on their Hammer machines but I expect they only make them for their own machines. Might be worth a call though, they're in Milton Keynes. Also it might be worth calling Ian at Tuffsaws since even though I doubt he stocks them, he might also know if they're available in the UK.

Hi,

Unless you have a "run" of sanding to do, the change over from bandsaw to belt & back again is a pain. If you need a narrow band might be better to by a S/Hand small stand alone vertical machine like a Vanco My belts came with the bandsaw sorry cant help with the supplier.

Not sure what length you want but Metabo do a small range

Thanks Guys. I know its a bit fiddly to change over, but I am planning to make a lot of scroll saw items and my scroll sawing is pants so they will need quite a lot of sanding. A narrow belt would work much better than my 100mm belt sander.

Asked a friend of mine who is a buyer for a tool merchant if he had any idea where you could buy sanding belts that long, he tried to locate an off the shelf supplier but only came up with "made to order", so unless you could get them from the bandsaw manufacturer you may have a problem

Yes I saw that but as you say that is a US site

Never thought of making one. I shall certainly try that, and make some for the belt sander too, shop bought are pretty expensive. Thanks for that.
