Hello well i picked up my plane this morning im prettey happy with it needs serious flattering.

On first sight it looks brand new and it has its orgnal machining marks on the end of the blade which shows it has never been sharpened but pictures will explain the rest.

What do you guys think?

That S on the chipbreaker indicates something to do with who cast it.. I think the earlier ones where with the S and the later ones with a B.. but I can remember it was on one of the aging charts I think.

Looking at it i'd have said 70's. The frog bedding & lever cap give it away.

Cheers

The only reason i think not is the frog is straight at the top not curved?

Is it English or American? You provide lots of photos, but none of the casting!

The body of the plane is the casting. That's where a lot of the most obvious information about age is. Like "Made in England", which would mean we could utterly ignore every single "Stanley Plane Dating Page" for instance.

Oh it says made in england behind the frog then no.41/2 in front of the handle and bailey behind it

I also have the box

I agree.
No reason why it shouldn't be reasonably servicable
The 4 1/2 are a bit more useful than the 4 IMHO

Thats why i brought it flattened it looks mint condition

Is this the one I almost bought from 'Oldtools'?

The reason I didn't is I already have one that just needs wooden handles. Which I will get a roundtu !
