Backlash in record vice

I purchased an old record 9" vice with quick release from ebay and finally got it fitted to my bench this week.

I'm a little disappointed with it as I have to turn it almost a full turn before the jaws start to open.

Is there an exploded view anywhere so I can check mine is complete?

Is there anything I can do to improve its performance?

Sounds like its sticky or damaged and is compressing the spring before it moves the jaw, have a look underneath to see if the spring, might need a clean and lube or the back of the front jaw where it sticks out is damaged and is catching. Some filing usually sorts it out.
