You may have heard on the ‘grapevine’ that we at Axminster are hosting a woodturning
seminar on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th October 2009 known as Strictly Woodturning. The
main event will be held at the Axe Valley Community College in Axminster during the day,
with the Friday evening event being held at the Axminster Guildhall.
The two days will be packed with demonstrations from some of the best turners in the world
and Axminster hospitality will abound. We have managed to secure the following turners: Nick
Agar, Dave Reeks, Mark Hancock, Gary Rance, Phil Irons, Bert Marsh, Stuart King, Tony Rae, Tracy
Owen and Les Thorne plus our own Jason Breach and Colwin Way will also be taking their turn
on a lathe.
There will be an opportunity, for anyone who is interested, to enter a piece of their work in our
competition with great prizes for the top 3 entrants and all pieces of work will be on display in
our Gallery.
There will be a number of trade stands (by invitation only) and an opportunity to late night
shop at the Axminster Tool Centre store. Each delegate will receive a ‘goody bag’ with a 5%
discount card.
Also included in the ticket price will be lunch (on both days), tea and coffee, an evening meal
with beer and wine on the Friday, together with an evening of entertainment from highly
revered local musicians Steve Black and Alan West, and our very own ‘Strictly Woodturning’
competition - a re-work of Ready Steady Turn with the professional turners working against
the clock and each other. In short, all you need to do is arrange some accommodation for the
Friday night.
All in all, this is an event not to be missed.
