This keeps popping up and its doing my head in. Had a google and found this

In Internet Explorer, click on the gear wheel icon at the top right and select Internet options from the menu. Now, select the Security tab and click the ‘Custom level…’ button. Scroll down to Scripting, then under Active Scripting, click disable to turn off JavaScript. Then click OK.

Worked for about 10 minutes and now its back aaaagggghhhhh.

Any suggestions ? sledgehammer looks tempting.

I had this same annoying pop-up this morning but has not appeared for a while so hopefully it's gone away.

John

Most of those pop-ups are loaded by the code on the page you are viewing and tied to advertising, some with persistent coding to keep reloading and prevent closure of the window by normal methods.

Are you saying they are appearing when viewing UKW pages, if so what advertising banners etc. are on screen when they load.

Usually a second click on the page/tab close icon will close it without having to interact with the popup.

I've noticed recently that some have now become sensitive to where your cursor is. When you move it towards the address bar to close the tab they pop up. Clever.

Chas, I didn't notice any advertising. It hasn't occurred again since this morning.

John

It seemed to happen most on the main forum page, the section bit.

Click on a section general chat, hand tools etc.. then I'd get it.

Seems to be ok again but I seem to recall no ad on the right hand side.

Currently axminster on top and alibaba/sourcing woodworking machines on the right

It's back

Not blank just a small animated aeroplane ? travelling diagonally.

Nothing happens when I click on it, no words/address appear in the bar below.

Are you using NoScript (or a popup blocker of some sort?).

It's often a benign warning if you've triggered a script that will reload the current browser window with a different URL. It's done to warn you that you've caused a new URL to be loaded, as that wouldn't be obvious as it would be for a simple link. IT COULD be a warning of some sort of "clickjack" or an attempt to trick you into going somewhere you didn't want to (by hiding what's going on), but that's fairly unusual.

The warning itself is a good security thing, but I'd be a bit concerned as to what is triggering it.

Nope nothing fancy here, no ad blockers or anything else of note.

Do a quick scan most days but did a full scan today but found nothing on updated Microsoft security essentials.

Do I need to spend some money on proper software ? I gave up on Norton after I had a spyware or was it a malware problem.

Thanks for all the help,
Carl

Hi
I was getting the same all weekend, but seems to have sorted it's self as nothing at all tonight. Laptop is scanned everyday using f-secure.

Marty

Thanks Eric,

Switched to firefox and no problems.

Bring back Netscape.

For what it's worth, you can close the current tab by hitting Ctrl+W. Like that you don't have to move your mouse anywhere. ;-)
