It's a storm in a teacup. Typical sensational media hype. Apple offer a two stage verification process. if no-one actually uses that then they leave themselves wide open. A lot of the time this isn;t so much as a virus or anything like that...often it relies on the vacant space between the user's ears ... aka social engineering...to achieve whatever it is they are trying to do.

Those who follow simple and straightforward security advice will not be affected at all. And what they have to do is so incredibly simple you have to ask why those users weren’t already following this advice — none of it is rocket science:

Set a passcode on all your devices
Use two-factor authentication
Keep your devices up to date
