It belonged to a friend of mine who was buried last week.

Ill be open in that im trying to work out if its a desirable unit or otherwise, in the interests of his family.

Thank you,
Julian

Apologies - its not like ive not stared at the plate, but i did not actually manage to read the "Myford ML8" on it!

...so now i know what it is, ill look it up.

So, nothing to see here.... : )

Yes, it is a myford ML8, old but well made and will probably still be in use when many of today's far east imports with whistles and bells have long since been consigned to the scrap heap. Check out the lathes.co.uk website for full details.

There appears to be part of the outboard turning attachment in the cabinet.
These lathes started off yellow, then were made in silver, and finally in green. Yours looks like it has been repainted from the original yellow.

Edit - to give you an idea, my 1985 brochure lists the lathe with outboard attachment at £384 plus VAT, the cabinet at £252, the motor at £55. - £80 depending on type, and the push button starter at £23. Faceplates are listed at £11.25 each, again all plus VAT
Those figures can be doubled at least, to give the corresponding value today, somewhere around £1500, so that gives an idea of build quality

This isnt a forsale post, but could someone put a sensible figure on the above?

Ill open a forsale in the correct way when the time comes, but, as above, really im just trying to get an idea of a fair (rather than ebay) price at present.

I wouldn't turn your nose up at eBay prices- particularly completed auctions. They'll show a realistic price of what people are willing to pay. Sorry about your friend and good luck with the sale.

A couple of hundred, maybe? They seem to go up and down in value- I sold mine five or six years ago without a motor or a bench for over two hundred, but six months later I wouldn't have got that. Also, someone will need to pick the thing up and Devon is quite a way off the beaten track for most people. (Most people - it actually is the beaten track from where I am :D ) It depends who wants them when.

Thank you for the comments - much appreciated.

I will point his wife toward this thread, so then at least there is some idea as to the price.

Again, thank you.

I only got £200 for mine, with a new motor and lots of bits with it. Someone got a bargain!
