I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have a very good system for storing pens, pencils, craft knives and the like.
I have quite a few of them, and currently put them in a pot on the desk, which always seems to get knocked over or gets in the way.

I don't have any shelving up or any space other than my work bench right now, so I thought a good idea would be to have some sort of pot that attached the the underside of the work bench on the edge.
This pot would be able to tip forward 45 degrees or to allow me to access it's contents, and then be pushed back under so that it wouldn't be sticking out from the edge of the bench.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how to approach this.
Obviously you have the thing it's self which I could make out of wood, and the mechanism would ( I would've thought) need to operate through some sort of hinge going through both either sides of the structure holding the pot, and the container its self.

Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

a hole in each side of your cup with a bit of dowel as the axle. on each side. put the pivot point above the centre of the cup vertically so most of the mass is in the base, this will help it stay the right way up.
If you make the holes a fairly snug fit on the dowels then the friction alone should allow you to tip the cup forward however much you like and then return it without any more complicated a mechanism.

Of course, don't know why I didn't think of the dowel idea.

Thanks allot.

De clutter. If you like a spare of everything just keep two knives, pencils pens etc. Then make a pencil box to keep them in. When I do use a pot (To store my paint brushes for instance), then I stick the pots to my desk with a small wodge of blu-tak.)

I never follow my own advice where paint brushes are concerned. There are always new design brushes I think I MUST have!)

PS...

If you do need to keep lots of pencils and craft knives, could you put a shallow drawer under the bench; like a PC keyboard tray? You could make smaller trays to fit, and lie the pencils flat. They wouldn't get knocked over at all and the graphite wouldn't break so often. ) HTH You

Cheers... :D
